Los Angeles Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James believes the NFL owes Colin Kaepernick an apology.

Kaepernick was the first player in the NFL to kneel during the national anthem in 2016. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was protesting racial injustices in America and police brutality.

However, Kaepernick's peaceful protest caused a firestorm and he hasn't played in the NFL since 2016. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell admitted a few weeks ago that the league didn't fully understand why players were kneeling during the anthem until the tragic murder of George Floyd in Minnesota at the hands of policemen, but he never mentioned Kaepernick's name once during his video.

During an interview with Bloomberg, LeBron said it's time for the NFL to admit they were wrong about Kaepernick.

LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant are some of the biggest NBA stars who have been supporting Colin Kaepernick since 2016. Since the NBA is mostly made up of African Americans, the league and its top players have consistently stood by Kaepernick.

The NBA requires its players to stand for the anthem. The 2019-20 season is scheduled to resume on July 30 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It will be interesting to see if NBA commissioner Adam Silver makes any tweaks to the national anthem rule following the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.

As for Kaepernick, most NFL pundits don't expect him to play in the league again even though he's healthy and has started in a Super Bowl. With that said, we can continue to expect guys like LeBron, Curry, and Durant to stand with Kap.

Once the “bubble” games begin on July 30, LeBron and the Lakers will be one of the favorites to win the title. Los Angeles has the best record in the West.
