There have been many rumors about the Lakers going after Kevin Durant in free agency. That is relatively unlikely, however, since Durant has said he only wants to play for instant contenders, and Los Angeles is in rebuilding mode now that Kobe Bryant has retired.
According to the Sporting News’ Sean Deveny, there are two other free agents that the Lakers want – and both happen to play for the Golden State Warriors.
The two free agents that LA has in mind are forward Harrison Barnes and center Festus Ezeli. With The Warriors likely to go after Durant as well, it may free up Barnes and Ezeli, as KD will command big money and Golden State simply can’t pay everyone.
Barnes and Ezeli are both young players with championship experience, and could teach the Lakers young core of D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, and Jordan Clarkson a lot. If the Lakers can also entice Luke Walton to become their head coach, they’ll have someone at the helm who knows Barnes and Ezeli well.
