If we're not counting the weekend after the Golden State Warriors won the 2018 NBA Championship, Monday was officially Day 1 of the NBA's offseason, and it already featured more than enough rumors and speculation regarding the biggest free agent of them all: LeBron James.
Early Monday afternoon, USA Today Sports reported that James son, LeBron Jr., has already been enrolled at Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, California. At least, that's what former NBA player Gary Payton said in an interview with Black Sports Online.
A source with knowledge of the situation could not confirm to ClutchPoints that Bronny has already been enrolled at the high school, but was able to confirm that James' wife, Savannah, was in Los Angeles a few days ago (sometime last week) and at Sierra Canyon to get admissions information, presumably for their eldest son.
The high school boys basketball team is coming off of a 2018 Open Division City Championship as well as the Open Division State Championship. The team featured the son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen as well as the son of former NBA All-Star Kenyon Martin. Having LeBron Jr. join that team would certainly increase their odds of repeating at city champions and put them in good position to win the state championship as well.
Prior to James's 2014 free agency decision and just before their third child, Zhuri, was born, reports surfaced that James enrolled his kids in an Ohio school, but those were debunked not long after.
Entering the offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers are the odds on favorite to land James. Among some of the teams also in the running to land James are the Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. One would have to guess that if James is indeed looking to send his son to school here in Los Angeles, the Jerry West's LA Clippers could also be in the running for James.
Over the next couple of weeks, we're sure to hear more rumors and reports on what James will do in terms of his big free agency decision, but no one will know for sure until the three-time NBA Champion makes his final decision after July 1st.
