The Detroit Lions have signed free-agent wide receiver Tommylee Lewis, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

Lewis spent the 2018 campaign with the New Orleans Saints and is most known for being the receiver who was clearly interfered with and tagged on a helmet-to-helmet hit by Los Angeles Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman during the NFC Championship Game without a flag being thrown.

The incident occurred late in the fourth quarter in a 20-20 game. The Saints were then forced to settle for a field goal, giving them a 23-20 lead, but the Rams came back and answered with a field goal of their own to send the game into overtime.

Los Angeles then won the game on a 57-yard boot by Greg Zuerlein in the extra session, punching its ticket to the Super Bowl in one of the most controversial finishes in NFL history.

On the season overall, Lewis caught three passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Northern Illinois, went undrafted but eventually landed with New Orleans in 2016. He registered just seven catches for 76 yards during his rookie campaign, primarily specializing as a kick returner.

Then, in 2017, Lewis snared 10 balls for 116 yards and a score.

The Lions are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won just six games and missed the playoffs for the second straight year.

Detroit has made just three playoff appearances since 2000 and has not won a playoff game since making it all the way to the NFC Championship Game back during the 1991-92 season.
