Lions’ plan ahead of 2021 NFL Draft
The Detroit Lions appeared to secure their quarterback for the future when they acquired Jared Goff from the Los Angeles Rams as part of a package for longtime signal-caller Matthew Stafford.
However, Detroit is seemingly joining the list of teams picking in the top 10 that could draft a quarterback.
Benjamin Albright of KOA NewsRadio Colorado reported Tuesday he was told the Lions could draft a quarterback with the No. 7 selection “if the right one fell in their lap.”
Just got off the phone with someone who told me not to be surprised if Detroit went QB at 7 if the right one fell in their lap.#DraftSzn

The Jacksonville Jaguars are all but guaranteed to select Clemson star Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick. The New York Jets are likely to follow with BYU quarterback Zach Wilson after trading Sam Darnold.
It remains to be seen which direction the San Francisco 49ers will go after moving up to No. 3, but there has been a lot of buzz regarding their love for Alabama’s Mac Jones.
If that order holds, it would leave Justin Fields and Trey Lance as the top two quarterbacks still on the board. The Atlanta Falcons could select one of the two with the fourth overall pick, though Atlanta is rumored to be quite intrigued by Florida tight end.
The Lions would seem to need receiving talent after losing Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones in free agency. But maybe Holmes and Co. opt for a quarterback at seven with the knowledge this year’s class is quite deep at the wide receiver position.
Then again, this could be smoke meant to prompt the likes of the Denver Broncos to move up a few spots if they should express interest in a quarterback.
