San Francisco 49ers defensive back Richard Sherman says the Detroit Lions need to hire Robert Saleh as their new head coach.

Saleh, the 49ers' defensive coordinator, was born in Dearborn, Michigan. The Lions are in need of a new coach after firing Matt Patricia and Sherman says the franchise would be making a mistake by not hiring Saleh.

“He has to get the Detroit job,” Sherman told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. “Homegrown. He’s a great leader of men. And he’s not stubborn. He doesn’t just think he has all the answers. He comes up with a great plan and evolves it with his players. He’s a great human being. Makes you want to fight for him.”

The Lions are on their way to missing the playoffs for the fourth straight season. The team is 4-7 after losing to the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving Day.

Saleh has been with the 49ers since 2017. Although Saleh never been a head coach in the NFL, Sherman believes the Lions would be taking a step in the right direction by hiring Saleh, who is very passionate on the sidelines and seems like a player's coach.

The Lions will take on the Chicago Bears in Week 13. Both Detroit and Chicago are walking disasters at the moment, so it may not be a pretty game on Sunday at Soldier Field.

The Bears defeated the Lions in Week 1 by a final score of 27-23.
