Richard Sherman claims Lions’ next head coach is on 49ers’ staff
Saleh, the 49ers’ defensive coordinator, was born in Dearborn, Michigan. The Lions are in need of a new coach after firing Matt Patricia and Sherman says the franchise would be making a mistake by not hiring Saleh.
“He has to get the Detroit job,” Sherman told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. “Homegrown. He’s a great leader of men. And he’s not stubborn. He doesn’t just think he has all the answers. He comes up with a great plan and evolves it with his players. He’s a great human being. Makes you want to fight for him.”
The Lions are on their way to missing the playoffs for the fourth straight season. The team is 4-7 after losing to the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving Day.
Saleh has been with the 49ers since 2017. Although Saleh never been a head coach in the NFL, Sherman believes the Lions would be taking a step in the right direction by hiring Saleh, who is very passionate on the sidelines and seems like a player’s coach.
The Lions will take on the Chicago Bears in Week 13. Both Detroit and Chicago are walking disasters at the moment, so it may not be a pretty game on Sunday at Soldier Field.
The Bears defeated the Lions in Week 1 by a final score of 27-23.
