Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford delivered a game-winning touchdown pass to tight end T.J. Hockenson, beating the Atlanta Falcons after getting the ball back late, following Todd Gurley's inadvertent touchdown score.

Leaking out of the pocket to escape the pressure being applied by Atlanta's defensive line, Stafford's touchdown pass was his first of the day as it got a surprisingly resilient Lions team back to .500 on the season at 3-3.

The story of the game however, will undoubtedly be the mishap by the Falcons on the possession before, in which the hapless Atlanta squad known for blowing leads, somehow found a way to turn a touchdown score into a net negative. Attempting to stop at the one-yard line, rather than entering the end zone, running back Todd Gurley was unable to stop his momentum and initiated a change of possession before the Falcons could run out the clock and force Detroit to use its timeouts.

Instead, the Lions and Stafford got the ball back with over a minute remaining in regulation, with all three timeouts, and promptly scored in only eight plays. For a franchise accustom to squandering late leads, Sunday's loss was an inventive way to do it.
