The Orlando Magic surprised a lot of people with their late surge last season which saw them make it to the playoffs as the seventh seed. Although they lost to the eventual champions Toronto Raptors in the first round, there was a belief from within the franchise that they can do better this upcoming season. High-flying forward Aaron Gordon feels that way too, but he also said that in order for them to take the next step, they need to have a sense of urgency, to want more.

In an interview with NBA.com's John Denton, Gordon said that the Magic already have an idea of what they can do as a team, but they shouldn't be satisfied with that, adding that they should all strive to get better.

“That can be our only mindset – wanting more. Last year, we went into training camp not really knowing what to expect, and because of that we didn’t really have that confidence of buying in early on. Now, we know that we can win and it’s just about playing at a high level of Orlando Magic basketball on a night in, night out basis so that we can show people what we can do.”

Orlando has decided to keep the core intact for next season as they hope to give the players one more chance to prove that they can make a deep run into the playoffs, Gordon, along with All-Star Nikola Jokic and super-sub Terrence Ross, are expected to lead the charge for the Magic.

Although the team isn't perceived to have a legitimate shot at the title, they seem to be on the right track in terms of building a championship team. The Magic are taking the steps needed to win, and while it might take time before we see Orlando in the Finals again, their chances don't seem farfetched as opposed to what it was over the past several years.
