The 2020-21 is set to begin just before Christmas, which will mark about six months since Magic big man Mo Bamba tested positive for COVID-19.

Yet, the Orlando Magic center is not expecting him to return to the court anytime soon.

“There's no real timetable for him to be able to come back and fully participate,” Magic head coach Steve Clifford said about Bamba on Tuesday, via Josh Robbins of The Athletic. “I think that he'll be able to do some things that are more organizational and everything. But he's a ways away, and there's no timetable on his return.”

In a follow-up tweet, Robbins reference a “60 minutes” segment on “long-haulers” — a term for people who tested positive for COVID-19 and remain plagued with symptoms for an extended period of time.

After testing positive on June 11, Bamba thought he was good to go upon arriving in the bubble, but his body mysteriously never responded to conditioning. Out of precaution, he was sent home by the NBA.

He underwent a comprehensive post-coronavirus test and was told by doctors that he's on a road to recovery and should not have any long-term complications from the virus.

At the time, he had been cleared to work out but was unsure about when he would resume basketball activities.

“It’s kind of tricky because we’re in the offseason, so I’m not sure what 5-on-5 is going to look like,” Bamba told the Orlando Sentinel in September. “I’m really eager to hear back from the team what their vision for me is in the near future. We don’t even know when the season is going to start. I’ll be ready.”

Evidently, he won't be cleared when the season opens up, but hopefully the third-year center can re-join his teammates soon.

In 60 games prior to the hiatus in March, Bamba averaged 13.6 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per 36 minutes. His rookie season was also cut short due a stress fracture in his foot.

Just another reminder of how little we truly know about this virus. Stay safe, folks.
