Man United suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday and lost two of their best defenders in the process. Both Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw limped off before the final whistle and Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer offered a rather underwhelming update on the duo after the match. Via BBC:

The Red Devils face Villarreal on Wednesday in the Champions League, the same team who beat them in the Europa final in May. Man United's backline will certainly be depleted though, considering Maguire is an absolute rock in the middle and Shaw is a huge piece to the puzzle on both ends of the pitch on the left flank.

At this point, there's no timetable on how long or how serious the injuries are. But, the two England internationals could now be in doubt for World Cup Qualifiers next month, depending on the severity.

Man United was toothless in the final third on Saturday, with Villa enjoying most of the chances. They ultimately put away a winner late in the second period thanks to a header from Kortney Hause, which many Red Devils supporters believed was offside. Bruno Fernandes then had the opportunity to salvage a point from the spot after a handball, but the Portuguese star smashed it over the bar.

It seems likely that Man United's defense will have a much different look on Champions League matchday 2. But hopefully, that won't be the case for long because Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are massive for this side.
