It's been a rather disappointing season for Manchester United, who are likely to miss out on Champions League football for 2022-23. Nevertheless, there is optimism that better days could be ahead after the announcement that Ajax boss Erik ten Hag will take over as their new manager in the summer.

Raphael Varane, who experienced ten Hag's success first-hand when his Real Madrid side was shocked in the UCL knockout stages a few years back by Ajax, revealed how he's feeling upon the arrival of the Dutchman.

“I played against them in the Champions League and they played very well,” the Manchester United center-back said.

“I'm very excited to work with him. I'm looking forward to working with him. I think he has good experience and he's a good person to work in this club.”

ten Hag built an absolute powerhouse in Amsterdam, leading Ajax to two Eredivisie titles since his arrival in 2017 and making them a regular in Europe's most prized competition. While the job at Manchester United comes with its pressure, many believe he's capable of turning things around for the Red Devils.

Current boss Ralf Rangnick, who will move into a different role once ten Hag arrives, has already said he is set to have quite the rebuild ahead of him. But, this is a man who lost so many of his best players at Ajax over the years yet still remained competitive thanks to a wonderful academy and his ability to get the most out of his squad.

Manchester United currently sits five points behind Arsenal for the final UCL spot, but the Gunners have two games in hand. Erik ten Hag certainly has a tall task ahead, but his resume says he's up for it.
