Despite being just 23 years of age, the Italian showed composure and brilliance on the field, completing 85% of his passes and scoring two goals. Manuel Locatelli has always been on Juventus' radar as early as 2017 when he was still in AC Milan. The rumors began to heat up again when Juventus were struggling during the 2020-2021 campaign and were reportedly looking for a midfielder to solve their woes. Their interest in Locatelli made sense considering he was the cog that helped Sassuolo be a top-10 team in Serie A.
