Tuesday's and Wednesday's MLB games between the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners have been postponed due to air quality issues that are taking place in Seattle, per ESPN.

The games between the Mariners and Giants will now take place in San Francisco on Wednesday and Thursday, although the Mariners are still going to be the “home” team.

However, there are no fans at the games due to COVID-19, so it really doesn't matter who the “home” team is.

Per Airnow.gov, the air quality in Seattle as of 4 p.m. ET Tuesday was 241, which is deemed “very unhealthy.” The air quality in San Francisco was 68, which is deemed moderate.

The question going forward is how the West Coast fires will affect MLB down the stretch, particularly with the American League division series and championship series scheduled to be held in California. While no plan is set in stone, the Phoenix area has emerged as the primary backup option if MLB needs to move any of its postseason games on account of air-quality problems, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The Giants are 23-24 on the season, while the Mariners are 22-26.

Seattle is in second place in the AL West standings. They are 6.5 games back of the Oakland Athletics.

San Francisco, meanwhile, is in third place in the NL West. They are currently 9.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Major League Baseball changed the schedules for the 2020 season so teams across both leagues would play the closest teams. It's plausible that the current air quality crisis impacting the west coast of the United States impacts the AL and NL West.

The MLB recently announced a new playoff structure that will have the multiple wild card games preceding “bubbles” in the Division Series.
