Current assistant coach for the Oklahoma City Thunder Maurice Cheeks suffered an unnamed medical issue while on a flight to Philadelphia on Wednesday, but has now been released from the hospital and is recovering well, per ESPN's Royce Young.

It should be noted that Cheeks underwent hip surgery back in February of 2016.

Cheeks is particularly valuable to the Thunder franchise because of his tight relationship with MVP-frontrunner Russell Westbrook. But he is also essential to the team thanks to his coaching experience. He started out as an assistant coach with the Sixers, and had long tenures for the Trail Blazers and Pistons. He has been a member of the Thunder coaching staff since 2015.

As a player, his most notable tenure was in Philadelphia, where he played for ten years where he had four All-Star appearances. He was known as a defensive juggernaut (four-time All-Defensive First, one-time Second Team) and capped it all with a championship in 1983.

After an illustrious decade in Pennsylvania, his next destinations were the SpursKnicks, and Hawks, finishing his career in 1993 after 35 games for the Nets.
