For basketball icon Charles Barkley, Kristaps Porzingis of the Dallas Mavericks can't use the “hurt last year” card anymore as an excuse for his inconsistencies.

Per Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News, Barkley reiterated that the Mavericks cannot rely on Luka Doncic every night. Barkley states that Porzingis, too, has to be aggressive.

“Rick Carlisle has got to say, ‘Yo, man, we need you to be aggressive. We can't rely on Doncic every single night. . . . No more excuses that you were hurt last year. .' If he's aggressive when Doncic is not there, he can be aggressive when Doncic is there.”

While Porzingis has generally done well thus far, there are moments where he suddenly disappears and struggles from the field. On Thursday's 102-98 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, the Latvian crawled his way to 13 points. He shot 4-of-15 from the field, 3-of-8 from deep, and 2-of-4 from the free-throw line.

This is his second straight game shooting below 35 percent from the field. In the previous game, a 110-107 loss to the Toronto Raptors, Porzingis had 19 points on 5-of-15 from the field.

This has been the major criticism thrown at him in his first season back from the ACL injury. Let's see if he finally does something about it. After all, it came from Barkley — considered one of the best players in the history of the sport.
