The Dallas Mavericks have come out firing to start the season and they continued their dominant form in a victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. The Mavs bulldozed their way to a 130-84 win over the Pelicans, making Dallas history at the same time.

As usual, Luka Doncic paved the way for head coach Rick Carlisle's squad, tallying 26 points, six rebounds, and nine assists in only 26 minutes of play. Five other players scored in double figures for the Mavs with Boban Marjanovic leading the Luka support crew by scoring 15 points and hauling down 16 rebounds.

The Pelicans could not find their stroke all game long, going on a horrendous 3-of-32 clip from beyond the arc and 32-of-89 overall. Brandon Ingram and Jrue Holiday were shackled by the Mavs' defense scoring below-par totals of 14 points each.

With the win, Dallas now enjoys a one-game cushion over the Denver Nuggets for the Western Conference's second spot, behind the mighty Los Angeles Lakers. Victorious in nine of their last 10 games, the Mavs are riding the wave of a five-game winning streak.

Doncic is playing like a man possessed with averages of 30.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 9.2 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. The 20-year-old phenom is making a strong case for this season's MVP award and threatening Derrick Rose's record of being the youngest recipient of the Maurice Podoloff trophy.
