The Dallas Mavericks were not able to prevent the surge in COVID-19 cases in the organization, with Tim Hardaway Jr. the latest Mavs player to enter the league's health and safety protocols.

That means the Mavs now have four players in their COVID-19 list after Reggie Bullock, Josh Green and Maxi Kleber entered it in recent days.

With that said, Mark Cuban and Co. had to use the hardship exemption to sign a replacement player in, well, Charlie Brown (via Shams Charania of The Athletic). The 24-year-old guard has been playing with the Delaware Blue Coats this 2021-22 season, though he had brief stints in the NBA in the past two campaigns with the Atlanta Hawks and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The hardship exemption allows team to go over the maximum 15-man roster when at least four players are injured or sick for a long period. For what it's worth, though, the league recently instituted a new rule for replacement players amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

As reported earlier, teams can now sign a replacement for every player under contract that tests positive for COVID-19. NBA teams are required to sign at least one player when two have tested positive, two if three have tested positive, and three if four have tested positive.

With that said, it is likely the Mavs will look for another player to sign amid their COVID-19 outbreak. Besides, they are also facing injury issues with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, so they will need every help they can get.
