The Dallas Mavericks made quite an intriguing move on last Thursday's NBA draft. The Mavs made a deal with the Detroit Pistons to move down from the 37th pick to the 45th pick in exchange for two future second-round picks. The two second-rounders were reportedly the Utah Jazz's 2020 and the Portland Trail Blazers' 2021, according to Tim Cato of The Athletic.

With the trade, the Mavericks acquired the rights to Nebraska forward Isaiah Roby, in addition to the two second-rounders. At 6-foot-8, 230-lbs. and with a 7-foot-3 wingspan, Roby was known as a great defender and could guard 1 through 5 at the collegiate level.

However, he still needs to put in a lot of work on his offensive game. In his junior year, Roby averaged 11.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks.

The Mavericks found themselves a gem in the second round of last year's draft with point guard Jalen Brunson. They hope they can have some luck with Roby again, though, given his raw game, he will likely head to the G-League for most of his rookie campaign.

Dallas has high hopes for the 2019-20 season. The Mavericks are aiming to return to the playoffs led by their promising star Luka Doncic. The addition of Latvian star Kristaps Porzingis, who will make his much-awaited return to action from a torn ACL, certainly adds to their excitement.

Moreover, the Mavs also have the cap room to add another star to their international star tandem. There are rumors that they are interested to sign Al Horford in free agency.
