Mavs point guard Dennis Smith Jr. is setting the bar high this season. The crafty ball-handler says he has one goal in mind for his team, and that is to make it to the playoffs.

“My only goal for this year is to make the playoffs,” Smith said in an interview with Mike Fisher of 247sports.com. “I think everything else will follow that. Everybody here believes in each other. I think that’s a recipe for success.”

Smith's aspirations may seem a bit lofty, but the Mavs may indeed have a shot at making the playoffs. Dallas lost eight of their first 10 games this season, which had fans of the team scratching their heads. However, the Mavs have managed to rebound a bit as of late, winning five of their last seven. As of today (Friday), Dallas' record stands at 12-11, which is good for the No. 2 spot in the Southwest Division standings.

Smith has been dealing with a right wrist sprain and missed Wednesday night's matchup against the Pelicans. The injury originally occurred on November 20, but he re-aggravated it on Tuesday bracing himself for a fall. At this point, it is unclear if he'll be available for Saturday's game against the Houston Rockets.

In his 20 appearances with the Mavs this season (all starts), Smith has racked up averages of 13.5 points on 44.0 percent shooting from the field (35.9 percent from beyond the arc), 4.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 28.5 minutes per outing.

Saturday's Mavs-Rockets game is scheduled to tip inside the American Airlines Center at 6:00 p.m. EST.
