The World Cup has begun and the entire world is watching the tournament unfold in stadiums throughout Russia. Weā€™ve already seen a number of intriguing outcomes, including Portugal's entertaining 3-3 finish against Spain, a beatdown by Russia against Saudi Arabia, 5-0, and team Iceland tying powerhouse Argentina 1-1 in it's first ever World Cup match. It should come as no surprise that on day three of the competition, we have some more entertaining action.

On Sunday morning (U.S. time), Germany and Mexico took center-stage in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, and after more than a handful of close shot attempts and back-and-forth action, the Mexican team came out on top and defeated the Germans, 1-0.

After the match, one of the most famous German professional athletes in Dirk Nowitzki chimed in with his disappointment in the result with a single tweet.

Nowitzki's German team was favored to win the match, but the underdog Mexican team put up a bit of a stunner to win. There's still two more games to be played in the group phase, and anything can happen until then. It's not a great start for Germany, however, and it's a terrific start for Mexico.

Nowitzki, who just wrapped up his 20th NBA season in the NBA and fully intends to return for a 21st next season, averaged just 12.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 24.7 minutes. He was able to play 77 games, but the Mavs saw another losing season in the West.

Dallas is hoping to turn things around this summer, hopefully securing a big-name free agent and using their fifth pick in the 2018 NBA Draft to select a potential franchise game-changer.
