The Dallas Mavericks acquired veteran shooting guard J.J. Redick prior to the March 25 trade deadline. He has yet to make his Mavs debut.

Redick was working out and planned to join the team in the near future as he recovered from a bruised heel. He said on his “Old Man and the Three” podcast he was hoping to practice with the team for the first time on Saturday. Redick said he should be able to play shortly thereafter if all goes according to plan:

“Hopefully, in the next couple of games, I’ll be available to play,” Redick said, via ESPN's Tim MacMahon. “That’s sort of the plan.”

The 36-year-old had said previously he was a bit miffed in terms of how the New Orleans Pelicans handled his market ahead of the deadline.

Redick explained Pels president of basketball operations David Griffin said he would work with the former Duke star to work out a trade closer to his Brooklyn home. Obviously, that did not happen, in spite of rumors both the Nets and New York Knicks had interest in the sharpshooter's services.

Instead, Redick finds himself serving as more of a spot-up, catch-and-shoot type of guy for Luka Doncic and the Mavs. He said on an earlier episode of “Old Man and the Three” he was excited to join a young and hungry roster:

“The Mavs situation, really good,” Redick said, via Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News. “Obviously huge respect for Mark and Rick and Donnie [Nelson] and what they’ve been able to build there with that franchise. And getting to play with two more transcendent players.”

Redick's Mavs debut could possibly come as soon as Monday or Wednesday if he doesn't experience any setbacks.
