Despite the fact that former New York Knicks superstar big man Kristaps Porzingis has yet to play a game as a member of the Dallas Mavericks, “The Unicorn” is already being compared to the legendary Dirk Nowitzki.

Technically a teammate of Nowitzki, it does not seem as though Porzingis will ever suit up alongside the Mavs legend, who is currently in the midst of his final NBA season, due to injury.

Nonetheless, the two European phenoms will be compared for years to come with Porzingis already being forced to address such a topic.

“Of course, there is some similarities,” Porzingis recently said, via Mavs.com. “You see the height and the ability to shoot the ball. Dirk is one of the greatest shooters ever, and I don’t want to compare myself to him. I still have a ways to go to get to that level.

“There are some similarities, but also we have our differences. We’re a different player in a lot of areas of the game, but I’m glad to be here to be able to learn from him and pick up a lot of those things that he has perfected throughout his career.”

The 23-year-old Latvian big man was traded from the Knicks to the Mavs earlier this month with New York officially calling it quits on the “Unicorn Era.”

With Porzingis currently battling back from a torn ACL, the Knicks did not have even have his services in what would become his final go-round in the “Big Apple.”
