Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks have gotten off to a relatively decent start to the 2023-24 NBA season. Doncic has continued to play at an MVP level, performing superhuman feats on a seemingly nightly basis for the Mavs, and Dallas currently sits with a solid record of 11-8 ahead of Wednesday evening's matchup against the Utah Jazz.

Recently, Washington Wizards small forward Kyle Kuzma discussed his perspective on the Mavs' current roster construction when a fan on X, the platform formerly known as Twiter, asked him for his thoughts on the team.

“Player away. Lively will be good too,” wrote Kuzma.

Dereck Lively II has indeed shown flashes of greatness thus far early on in his NBA career, helping shore up what was a horrible Mavs defense a season ago and the main reason for their shocking finish outside of the NBA postseason. While a team led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will likely never be elite defensively, the Mavs have made strides on that end of the floor this season, boosted by the offseason additions of both Lively and Grant Williams, as well as the continued emergence of players like Josh Green.

Still, in order to truly compete with Western Conference powerhouses, most notably the reigning champion Denver Nuggets, Kyle Kuzma is probably correct that the Mavs could use another scoring option to help supplement Doncic and Irving and truly make the Mavs unguardable.

In the meantime, the Mavs and Jazz are slated to tip off at 8:30 PM ET on December 6 from Dallas.
