As expected, Luka Doncic has agreed to a supermax rookie extension with the Dallas Mavericks worth $207 million for five years

As Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN noted, Doncic is the first player eligible to the designated rookie max extension due to the fact that he has been voted to the All-NBA First Team twice and has already started in two All-Star games in just his first three years in the league.

Luka Doncic is expected to sign the contract in Slovenia on Tuesday. As reported earlier, Mavs special advisor Dirk Nowitzki will join team owner Mark Cuban, new head coach Jason Kidd, GM Nico Harrison and VP of Basketball Ops Michael Finley in Luka's home country to formally present him the offer.

While there is no surprise to the supermax extension, it is certainly good news for Dallas that they have locked their star player and face of the franchise for the long-term. Now, they can shift their focus on building a championship contender around him.

Luka is fresh off leading his native Slovenia to a fourth-place finish in the Tokyo Olympics. While they failed to get a medal in the competition, the 22-year-old certainly showed the world that he is one of the best basketball players today.

Hopefully, as he commits to the Mavs, he'll be able to truly compete for the title. Dallas has struggled in the past two postseasons and lost twice in the first round to the Los Angeles Clippers. Luka did dominate in both series though, raising hopes that they'll get  over the hump sooner rather than later.
