At this point in time, Dirk Nowitzki is considered to be the greatest player ever to play for the Dallas Mavericks. After leading the franchise to its first championship way back in 2011, there's really little a lot going for the 14-time All-Star. But as the Mavs force a deciding Game 7 against the Phoenix Suns, it looks like Luka Doncic is hot on his trail, especially after breaking a record once held by Nowitzki.

During Game 6 between the Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns, Doncic posted 33 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists in 35 minutes on the court. The All-Star guard's impressive showing not only forced a Game 7 between the two teams, it also broke Nowitzki's record of having the most playoff games with at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.

In the span of these current playoffs, Luka Doncic has achieved these numbers twice against the Utah Jazz and thrice against the Suns, despite missing several games due to injury. His total of five playoff games achieving this feat has Doncic passing Nowitzki in this regard. But while that record is a pretty hard feat to accomplish in itself, the way Doncic did it is equally impressive.

According to a tweet by ESPN Stats and Info, Nowitzki notched at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists in four games out of the 145 playoff matches he played while active. Doncic surpassed him just by playing 22 playoff games in his career.

Mavs, Luka Doncic, Suns

Of course, it remains to be seen whether Luka Doncic can lead the Dallas Mavericks back to the promised land, much in the way Nowitzki did during the franchise's first successful title run. In any case, this recent record made by the All-Star guard is a good sign that he can, especially if he can lead his team past the Phoenix Suns on their way to the Conference Finals.
