The status of Dallas Mavericks superstar guard Luka Doncic, who has been dealing with a calf injury, has been the biggest storyline surrounding the team's NBA Playoff series against the Utah Jazz. Doncic, who sustained a strained left calf in the final regular season game, has been unable to suit up in Games 1 or 2, though Dallas remains in the series, as they fought back to secure Game 2 with the series now heading to Utah. A week ago, the star guard had no timetable for his return. Now, there is definitely some optimism that Doncic could return in time for Game 3 vs. the Jazz or shortly after that, especially after the update provided by the Mavs star on Wednesday, as reported by Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

Doncic is unable to say if he's at 100 percent, which he almost certainly wouldn't be with such a quick turnaround from the injury. However, it's notable that the Mavs star said that he'll be out there if there's no risk of re-injury to his calf.

When exactly that will occur remains unclear, though Doncic will ultimately return at some point in the series.

Doncic was spotted putting shots up at the end of Mavs' practice, with head coach Jason Kid saying that his status for Game 3 vs. the Jazz will come down to “how he's feeling” Thursday.

You heard it from Doncic, though. If the Mavs' medical staff determines there isn't a risk of re-injury, he'll be out there for Game 3 of the NBA Playoffs first round series with Utah.
