After having arguably his most successful season with the Dallas Mavericks this past season, Luka Doncic now hopes to lead his national team in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. As it turns out, however, the Mavs superstar is facing a major snag with regard to his intention to represent the Slovenian national squad this summer.

According to Slovenian basketball federation Secretary Raso Nesterovic, FIBA has yet to provide them with the details of how much money the federation will need to cough up in order to cover the insurance of Doncic's Mavs contract:

“We have one of the biggest stars in the basketball world on the team, who are ready to sacrifice their days off in the middle of summer, but we have not yet received information on where, how, and by when we have to register and insure celebrities such as Luka Doncic and Goran Dragic,” Nesterovic said, via Grant Afseth of FanNation.

Doncic is one of the highest-paid players in the NBA today and let's just say that it would be problematic for the Mavs if he sustains some sort of injury while on international duty. This is why Slovenia will need to pay for his insurance. Depending on the amount, though, this matter could get complicated.

Be that as it may, Nesterovic remains confident that Doncic will be available for the national team. After all, there's no denying that the Mavs star will be their most important player in the tournament:

“Unofficially, they even told us to try to agree with the club. I believe that we will find a solution, as it is in everyone's interest to see Luka Doncic playing for Slovenia in the World Cup qualifiers and EuroBasket.” Nesterovic said.
