Mavs news: Luka Doncic questionable to face Grizzlies

The Dallas Mavericks are listing star guard Luka Doncic as questionable to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday.

Doncic is sick and didn't practice with the Mavs on Thursday:

Doncic was ill, sent home, did not practice today. Finney-Smith (hip) will be a gametime decision tomorrow.

4:30 NBA injury report lists four Mavericks with questionable designations for tomorrow's game against Memphis: Luka Doncic (illness), J.J. Barea (right ankle), Dorian Finney-Smith (hip flexor) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (left shoulder contusion).

Doncic has appeared in 50 games for the Mavs this season. He's averaging 28.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 8.8 assists while shooting 46.1 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from beyond the arc and 76.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Luka, the reigning Rookie of the Year, said last season he was surprised how well he played. Now, he’s an MVP candidate and the new face of the Mavs franchise in the post-Dirk Nowitzki era.

Barring a late-season collapse, the Mavs appear on their way to making the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Basketball fans are anxious to see Doncic and fellow All-Star big man Kristaps Porzingis on the NBA’s biggest stage.

The Mavs are 38-25 after defeating the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday. They are in seventh place in the Western Conference standings.
