Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic continued to place his name alongside legends during Tuesday's contest against the Sacramento Kings.

While racking up his seventh triple-double of the season, the Mavs star has now moved into third-place on the all-time list for rookies, tying Magic Johnson and the mark that he set with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1979-80.

Luka Doncic finished Tuesday's loss with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, helping keep his team in a see-saw contest with the high-octane Kings. Despite the gaudy stat line, Doncic shot 0-for-9 from behind the arc, which snaps a streak of 22 consecutive games with at least one made triple dating back to Jan. 22.

It appears unlikely that the Mavs' 20-year-old wunderkind can chase down Ben Simmons, who sits in second place with 12 triple-doubles which he delivered last season. For as special a talent as Doncic has proven to be, it will take something extraordinary for anyone to unseat Oscar Robertson's all-time mark of 26 back in 1960-61.

Even as Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young has come on strong in the season's final months, Doncic appears to have the inside track on being named the NBA's Rookie of the Year.

Sacramento escaped with the win Tuesday, but facing Doncic and his triple-doubles will be a thorn in their side for years to come.
