Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is expecting the recent suspension of the 2019-20 NBA season to resume at some point. The outspoken Mavs owner conceded he does not expect the season to be canceled, just postponed, with the possibility of some games going into August.

“Hopefully this virus runs its course during the next 60 days or so,” said Cuban as a guest of ESPN's Get Up. “At that point we can start making plans about the NBA, what our schedule looks like, how we progress from there.”

When prompted by Rachel Nichols of the possibility of games going into August, Cuban didn't hesitate:

“Absolutely,” he said. “The only reason why we haven't played games after June 12 in the past is because our TV partners… is because the TV landscape has changed dramatically over the last 3-4 years. So those numbers and those equations have changed significantly.

“There's not a lot of [market] competition, there's only regular-season baseball. I don't think necessarily until August, but I definitely see us playing the last 7-10 games of the regular season to get everybody back on course and then going right into the playoffs and going into July, if not August.”

Cuban has expected this to be the potential outcome of the league this season, but he was still shocked to learn the NBA had jumped to suspend its season, as that viral clip of his reaction showed.

Sure enough, the Mavs owner will be one of the most up-to-date authority figures regarding the spread of coronavirus and the medical and scientific progress that occur during the next few weeks of this halt.
