Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban says the Mavs almost acquired two big players at the trade deadline.

The Mavs traded for Willie Cauley-Stein earlier in the season after losing Dwight Powell to a season-ending Achilles injury. It looks like Cuban and the Mavs were this close to getting two more impact players next to stars Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis:

“We tried. We came really, really close on a couple deals,” Cuban told The Dallas Morning News. “Two really big pieces. They were both three-team deals, and in one case was a trade-and-extend and we couldn’t get the player to agree on terms. And the other piece, one of the teams just decided they didn’t want to trade a key guy to make it happen.”

The Mavs are 33-22 on the season. They are in sixth place in the Western Conference standings.

Doncic, who is starting in his first All-Star game on Sunday, is averaging 28.9 points, 9.5 rebounds and 8.7 assists on the season. Porzingis, meanwhile, is putting up 18.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists. KP played in 42 games pre-All-Star break, which isn't bad considering he missed all of last season recovering from an ACL tear.

We'll never know which two players Cuban and the Mavs were close to acquiring, but Dallas fans can be happy knowing their team appears to be on their way to making the playoffs again.
