Dallas Mavericks guard J.J. Barea did in fact suffer a torn right Achilles in Friday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The team feared that Barea had suffered a tear, and it appears that is the case.

Charania also revealed that all parties are currently evaluating the extent of the injury, which will likely determine what the recovery process will entail.

Barea is averaging 10.9 points and 5.6 assists in 19.8 minutes per game this season, and this obviously isn't the type of injury that any player wants.

The Mavs were still able to pick up the 119-115 win over the T'Wolves, and that allowed Rick Carlisle's team to move to 20-22 on the season after their second straight win.

Luka Doncic has been a big reason for the team's success, but Barea is a reliable veteran that has certainly been able to provide quality minutes throughout the season.

Dallas will now hope to keep its winning streak going, but it won't be easy given the upcoming schedule.

Next up is a showdown with the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, with Steph Curry and company coming off a blowout victory over the Chicago Bulls.

After that, the Mavs will host the San Antonio Spurs, who came out on top against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday in what was one of the best NBA games of the season thus far.
