Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle remains optimistic that Luka Doncic did not sustain a serious injury in the Mavs' 122-130 Game 3 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday.

Although the team is still awaiting the MRI results to know the severity of the injury, Carlisle bared some “good news” regarding the Slovenian star's status.

“One of the good things is that it’s the good ankle. It’s not the one that he sprained a few times in the last couple of years. We’ll know more tomorrow. He did come back and try it, obviously, and he wasn’t moving great,” Rick Carlisle told Mavs reporter Dwain Price after the game.

The entire Mavs team suffered quite the scare in the closing minutes of the third period when Doncic fell down and clutched his left ankle in obvious pain. The 21-year-old star briefly left the ball game and tried to brush it off at the start of the final canto. However, the discomfort was just too much to bear, as the visibly-hobbled guard had to leave the game for good shortly after.

Luka Doncic was visibly upset that he was unable to help out his teammates, who eventually succumbed to the Clippers' pressure in Game 3.

The 6-foot-7 guard missed a total of 13 regular-season games in 2019-20 due to an assortment of injuries. However, it was a severe right ankle sprain back in February that gave him the most problems.

Doncic still finished with a triple-double before leaving the game, notching 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in 29 minutes. It's safe to say that the Mavs' fate in the series will be determined on whether or not Luka can still play.
