Only hours before his official enshrinement into the Naismith Hall of Fame, Steve Nash went back to memory lane, recalling some of his early moments with the Dallas Mavs and his former teammate and longtime friend Dirk Nowitzki. The German international is coming into his 21st and last NBA season, which would be the most with one team, but the dime maestro is hoping Nowitzki is put out of his misery sooner rather than later.

Mavs.com reporter Dwain Price asked Nash about Dirk's eventual Hall of Fame induction in 10 years (in jest of how long he's managed to remain in the NBA), and Nash couldn't help himself but troll his former teammate.

“Ten years? Hopefully we’ll put him out his misery before then. He’s definitely one of the all-time greats.”

Former coach Don Nelson was also asked about Dirk's last season in the league, and he also couldn't help but make a dig at Nowitzki.

“I think he actually retired last year,” said Nelson. “But he was out there.”

Nowitzki's longevity in the game is something quite remarkable, given that he's still managed to have a decent production, even now as a 40-year-old.

The 7-footer put up 12 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season while shooting a strong 40.9 percent from deep and 90 percent from the stripe.

He currently ranks sixth in the all-time scoring list with 31,187 points, but it closely followed and likely to be overtaken by LeBron James with 31,038 career points. The only two active players behind them in the Top-25 are Carmelo Anthony (19th — 25,417 points) and Vince Carter (22nd — 24,868 points).
