The Memphis Grizzlies clearly want to dispose of Chandler Parson and his burdensome contract, but that problem is not going to be solved by easily clearing the forward’s locker of his belongings. The Grizzlies’ front office, however, appeared to have found a partner willing to help them accomplish that goal.

According to sources of Mike Fisher of DallasBasketball.com, the Mavericks are willing to absorb Parsons in a trade provided that it involves the Grizzlies’ No. 4 pick in next week’s NBA Draft.

And NBA sources tell me the Mavs are willing to take Parsons back in trade if Memphis is serious about sacrificing pick No. 4 overall in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Dallas “would look at taking on money in exchange for a top-10 pick,” one source tells me.

This is a tasty proposition from the Mavs’ point of view. For one, securing another top-five pick in a draft class perceived as one of the deepest in recent memory surely is going to help hasten Dallas’ recovery from a bad season and give more stability to the team’s future. However, that comes at the cost of having to pay Parsons $49 million over the next two years.

Memphis’ trouble with Chandler Parsons started when it signed the swingman to a lucrative and much-maligned four-year deal worth $94.5 million back in 2016. Since then, Parsons managed to appear in 70 games in which he averaged just 7.1 points and 19.5 minutes nightly.

As for Dallas, Fisher is toying with the idea of the Mavericks, who already owns the No. 5 pick, coughing up someone like Wesley Matthews in such a trade with Memphis. Matthews may cost Memphis $18.6 million next season but is an asset set to hit free agency in 2019.
