Sources familiar with the Dallas Mavericks don't believe the organization will offer center DeAndre Jordan a multi-year deal after his contract expires in the offseason, according to Mac Engel of the Fort Worth Star Telegram.

Getting a multi-year deal is something the Houston native and his agent are surely hoping for after signing a replica of his remaining deal with the LA Clippers before opting out of the last year of his contract.

The Mavs landed Jordan three years after the debacle that saw him walk back his promise to sign with Dallas, only to be barricaded by his teammates during an epic saga before returning to the Clippers as a free agent.

Jordan is no longer a player with upside, and while still a dominant rebounder, his skills are predominantly a byproduct of his size and exuberant athleticism — something that doesn't age well, particularly after 30 years of age.

The 6-foot-11 Jordan will turn 31 by the time next season gets underway, and his defense has already shown signs of declining in the last two seasons, dropping from three straight years of averaging two blocks or more per game to one and under in the last two campaigns.

Signing Jordan to a four-year deal would have him under contract until he is 35 years old and very likely not remotely the same athlete, which will hinder his scoring, rebounding and defense.

The Mavs will have future assets to keep in mind, especially considering Luka Doncic has rapidly become the centerpiece of their equation moving forward.
