The Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks made one of the biggest trades in recent history when they swapped Luka Doncic and Trae Young. The two teams could make another big trade at the trade deadline. As the Hawks consider finding John Collins a new home, the Mavs will likely be in the running to be that new home.

Collins has expressed his disappointment with the team several times over the past few years. Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report wrote that the 24-year-old forward “has lots of fans around the league” and mentioned Dallas as one of his bigger supporters.

Collins has a lot of fans around the league. San Antonio and Dallas have frequently been linked as suitors for some time.

Collins possesses a tantalizing blend of athleticism and perimeter shooting skills that would make him a perfect fit with a skilled ball handler like Luka Doncic. He has shown considerable improvement since entering the league in 2017.

Fischer said that the Mavs want to pursue Collins — as well as Myles Turner — and mentioned that Tim Hardawy Jr.'s contract could be a roadblock in finding a deal.

Dallas has been trying to get into the trade mix for Turner or Collins…But Dallas' ability to swing a significant trade could hinge on its ability to find a trade partner for Tim Hardaway Jr., who is averaging just 14.5 points (his lowest mark in five seasons) and shooting a mere 39.2% from the field and 32.8% from 3-point range after signing a four-year, $75 million contract in August.

After trading Cam Reddish to the New York Knicks, the Hawks could shake up their roster even move. The Mavs, who are in need of more reliable scorers, should go hard on trying to get Collins to pair with Doncic.
