Conventional wisdom was that the fate of Danny Green was linked directly to Kawhi Leonard's. One of the most effective, experienced wings on the open market, Green had the opportunity to decide his free-agency future early, but remained unsigned several days into July, and made no secret that he was waiting on Leonard to make his decision before making one of his own.

The LA Clippers didn't have enough cap space to bring Green in once they traded for Paul George. He quickly agreed to terms on a two-year, $30 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers once the Leonard news broke, putting a bow on his brief tenure with the Toronto Raptors and ending his flirtation with the Dallas Mavericks.

But according to Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News, Green's list of potential destinations was much shorter than had been previously reported. In fact, he was reportedly only considering the Lakers and Mavericks in free agency, and was never going to continue his career playing with Leonard.

Not that it matters now, but I'm told that Danny Green told Mavs he was not returning to Toronto, even if Leonard came back to Raptors. His choices always were Lakers or Dallas. Had Leonard chosen Lakers, Green would be a Maverick. Even if so, Dallas planned to pursue Wright.

Green, along with Leonard, was traded to Toronto last summer in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a first-round pick. A 10-year veteran, Green shot a career-high 45.5 percent from three0point range during the regular season, and is one of the most versatile perimeter defenders in the league.
