The New York Knicks remain the biggest threat to the Dallas Mavericks in their bid to keep Jalen Brunson, and according to the latest reports, the ‘Bockers are ready to go all-out just to sign him.
Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report shared in the latest episode of his podcast that the Knicks are ready to give Brunson a four-year deal worth $100 million. However, there are some people around the league who said it can go as high as $110 million–which is a $27.5 million annual salary for the young playmaker.
The Mavs have long expressed their desire to keep Brunson, and they seem rather confident they can do it since they can offer him more money. Nonetheless, the Knicks have been angling to sign the guard for some time now, even hiring his dad Rick Brunson to be an assistant coach.
As noted in an earlier report, there is a growing belief that Brunson himself wants the move to New York where he can be the lead guard while staying close to his family.
It remains to be seen what Dallas will do with Brunson, but there is no doubt there is a real threat of losing him. If they fail to re-sign him, it will be a huge blow to a franchise seeking to replicate or improve their performance from last season when they made it all the way to the West Finals.
Jalen Brunson was a big part of that run, and it'll definitely be difficult to replace the scoring and playmaking punch he provided the Mavs with.
