The victory was already sealed at that point so Luke Doncic's pass and Dennis Smith Jr.'s dunk were just the cherries on top. The 19-year-old Mavs phenom finished with 21 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Smith, for his part, had 12 points, nine assists, and two rebounds.

The two are turning out to be the Mavs' future stars. The 21-year-old Smith Jr. is coming off a superb rookie campaign where he was selected as a member of the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Doncic, meanwhile, is the favorite to win top rookie honors at the end of the season.

In an interview prior to the start of the season, Dennis Smith Jr. shared that he and Luka Doncic have been hanging out a lot both in and out of the court. Per Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated:

“‘Me and Luk have been playing pickup, and every day we’re on the same team we get the most wins regardless of who is in there,' Smith said.”

“I’ve been working in the gym,” Smith said. “I’m trying to build chemistry with Luk. When DeAndre arrives later this week, I am going to try to build chemistry with him. I’m getting a better relationship with the assistant coaches. I think I am prepared for this season.”

Now, we are seeing the results blooming. It's only a matter of time before we see the Mavs go back to their winning ways.
