WNBA star Maya Moore sat out the entire 2019 season to help free Jonathan Irons, a man who was in prison for a wrongful conviction 23 years ago.

Moore accomplished her goal, as Irons was released from jail thanks to the strong efforts of Moore, who first met Irons when she was 18 through a prison ministry program.

Now, Moore and Irons are married, as the Minnesota Lynx superstar and her new husband shared the wonderful news with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America.

“We wanted to announce today that we are super excited to continue the work that we are doing together, but doing it as a married couple,” Maya Moore said. “We got married a couple months ago and we're excited to just continue this new chapter of life together.

“Over the last 13 years, we have just developed a friendship and just entered into this huge battle to get him home and just over time it was pretty clear what the Lord was doing in our hearts and now we're sitting here today, starting a whole new chapter together.”

This is such a terrific story, one that we needed in 2020 since the year has been filled with bad news after bad news.

Moore, a six-time WNBA All-Star and the 2014 MVP, has career averages of 18.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists with the Lynx. She was also the 2013 Finals MVP.
