The New York Mets could be starting off the season extremely shorthanded. News broke Friday that Jacob DeGrom could miss up to four weeks with a stress reaction on his scapula.

Now, Max Scherzer is on the Mets' injured list. The pitcher suffered a minor hamstring injury ahead of the MLB regular season, and it's unclear how it will affect his Opening Day availability.

Mets writer Anthony DiComo tweeted Scherzer's thoughts on his probability of making an appearance on the mound on Opening Day.

Scherzer didn't give a clear answer as to whether or not he will be healthy enough for Opening Day. However, he didn't completely rule it out.

The Mets pitcher has been pretty fortunate when it comes to injuries. In 12 seasons in the MLB, the 37-year-old hasn't missed extended periods of time because of any health concerns.

However, Scherzer does have a small history with hamstring injuries. The star pitcher left an early September 2021 game because of hamstring tightness. According to Scherzer, it wasn't the first time he dealt with the issue.

SportsNets LA tweeted Scherzer's postgame interview.

“I've had this happen in the past and I've always been able to make my next start,” the former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher said.

If his preseason hamstring injury is anything like the one from September, Mets fans don't have much to worry about.
