The Los Angeles Angels made one of the first big moves in MLB free agency, signing former Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard to a one-year deal. They followed that up with another raid of the Mets on Monday.

According to Angels beat writer Jeff Fletcher, the Halos reached an agreement on a two-year deal with star relief pitcher Aaron Loup, marking their second quality free agency addition at the expense of the Mets early this offseason.

Loup was one of the best relievers in baseball in 2021. Coming out of the Mets bullpen, the lefty recorded 57 strikeouts across 56 2/3 innings of work and had a pristine 0.95 ERA. He was tough to hit, too, logging a 0.94 WHIP.

The 33-year-old will earn $17 million over the course of his new contract. The southpaw earned himself some stability and a lucrative pay raise with his career year in 2021, during which he earned $3 million.

The Angels got active early in free agency while many other teams have yet to strike. The Mets will have to respond in order to fill the gap left by Loup, as he was their most stable arm out of the bullpen last season.

Loup has been in the big leagues since 2012 when he debuted as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. He was drafted by the Jays in the ninth round of the 2009 MLB Draft out of Tulane University. Loup has played 10 seasons, spending time with Blue Jays, Padres, Phillies, Rays, Mets, and now the Angels. He boasts a career 3.05 ERA and a modest 8.5 K/9.
