The New York Mets and San Diego Padres are working on trades to address their needs ahead of the season. While the Mets seek help on the mound following Jacob deGrom's shoulder injury, the Padres are looking to bolster their outfield. The two playoff hopefuls have been in discussion about a trade that is seeing more momentum as the day goes on.

According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the offer awaiting the Mets includes Eric Hosmer, Chris Paddack, Emilio Pagan and cash. The Padres are looking to acquire Dominic Smith.

The Mets' interest in Paddack and Hosmer was reported earlier. Since then, the Padres have changed the offer in an attempt to make it sweeter for New York. Pagan, a right-handed relief pitcher, posted an ERA of 4.83 and a FIP of 5.22 in 63.1 innings last season.

San Diego is also including $25 million in an attempt to shed Hosmer's salary. The former All-Star has disappointed greatly during his time with the Padres and have explored several avenues trying to move him. Although Smith only has one season with over 100 games under his belt (and was not very good) he can play several positions.

The proposed trade would bring two players to New York that Mets fans aren't too fond of. Hosmer played a key role on the Kansas City Royals team that beat New York in the 2015 World Series and Paddack had a back-and-forth with Mets first baseman Pete Alonso over the NL Rookie of the Year award. The trade would bring in some depth and the Mets would get some relief for the bloated contract they would receive.
