Despite recent rumors of the Los Angeles Lakers being interested in keeping veteran forward Metta World Peace in-house by making him an assistant coach, there will no longer be a need for that as he's managed to crack the 15-man roster.

The team waived forward Yi Jianlian this morning, per his request, as he's seen very limited time in the preseason and was likely to ride the bench for the majority of the season.

The Lakers then made their final cut, waiving small forward Anthony Brown, therefore keeping World Peace within the confines of Staples Center. Brown had only logged an average of 8.3 minutes per game through the preseason, making him an unlikely candidate to contribute.

Metta World Peace now finds himself behind Luol Deng and Brandon Ingram on the depth chart, but his role will be more of a mentor to the young Lakers than an actual contributor on the court.

His one-year contract for the veteran minimum is likely to be his last one as a player, before he eventually joins the coaching ranks alongside head coach Luke Walton; if the offer still stands after the season.
