The Miami Hurricanes have suffered a pretty big loss. The team's leading rusher, Mark Walton, is out for the season after undergoing surgery for an ankle injury.

Miami head coach Mark Richt spoke on the matter and did it ever sound like football:

“The team understands it's football, it's physical and guys get hurt,” Richt said, as transcribed by ESPN. “I don't think there will need to be any kind of explanation. It won't be shocking to them that something like that happened. They knew that Mark was hurt.”

Mark Walton injured his right ankle in the fourth quarter against Florida State last Saturday. He actually left the field on a cart. This was just an injury begetting an injury, as he was already was dealing with a sprained left ankle, which he injured against Toledo a few weeks ago.

With the Hurricanes only relying on three primary rushers this season, it likely means Travis Homer is about to get a lot more of the payload from this point on.

“Travis, he's done very well,” Richt said. “He's done well as a runner, he's done unbelievably well as a special teamer. He was our special teams player of the week just this past week.”

The good news here is that Richt claims this won't hurt Miami too much.

“I feel like we have a team that cheers for each other even at the positions when you're competing with a guy,” Richt said. “There's a great relationship with (Travis) and Mark and everybody in the room and they'll all be banding together to help us win.”
