In the past few seasons, the Michigan football team has made it clear that they want to be one of the most physical teams in college football. The Wolverines have been successful in achieving that goal as they won a national championship last season behind a punishing rushing attack. Michigan was tougher and more physical than every team they played. Now, Jim Harbaugh is gone and Sherrone Moore is the head coach of the Wolverines. That could change things, but according to defensive lineman Kenneth Grant, the team is even more physical now.

When a head coach leaves, there are bound to be things that change within a college football program. With the recent Michigan football head coaching change, however, there isn't as much change as there is in other cases. Sherrone Moore spent a lot of time around Jim Harbaugh and he saw how he found success. Harbaugh laid the groundwork for the Wolverines to be a top program in college football, and Moore wants to keep the train moving.

The style of play at Michigan likely isn't going to change under Moore. He wants his team to be as physical as ever, and so far, they are more physical than they were under Harbaugh.

“I think it's more physical,” Kenneth Grant said, according to a tweet from Clayton Sayfie. “Even more physical because of Sherrone Moore. We definitely just play football more, 11-on-11 situations more.”

Moore's motto at Michigan has been “smash.” That's all you need to know about the style of play and the mentality that he wants his team to have.

Kenneth Grant is poised for a big 2024 season

One of the most physical players on the Michigan football team last season was Kenneth Grant. He had an outstanding year, and he is expected to have another big campaign in 2024. The Wolverines are returning a lot of key pieces along the defensive line from last season, and Grant is one of them.

Grant is 6'3″ and 339 pounds, but his athleticism says otherwise. He is a beast in terms of strength, but also has tremendous quickness for someone his size. All in all, he's incredibly hard to stop.

Last season, Grant racked up 29 total tackles, 3.5 sacks and he also added an interception. He had a huge sack in the national title game (pictured above) that was one of his top plays of the season.

Kenneth Grant is going to be an exciting player to watch this season, and that really goes for the entire Michigan football defense. The Wolverines want to swarm the ball, and of course, they want to be physical.
