Former five-star recruit defensive back Tony Grimes will open another chapter of his college football career with another program. Grimes, who was with the Texas A&M Aggies in the 2023 season, has reportedly committed to take his talents to East Lansing with Michigan State football, according to Justin Thind of 247 Sports.

“BREAKING: #MichiganState lands transfer CB Tony Grimes over #PennState. Grimes was a standout corner at UNC for 3 seasons & spent this past year at TAMU. The former Five-Star recruit had 97 tackles, 20 PBUs, and an INT at North Carolina.”

It appears that Grimes was convinced to commit to Grimes because of the positive impression he took with him after meeting with Spartans defensive coordinator Joe Rossi and secondary coach Blue Adams as well as the entire Michigan State football coaching staff.

“The vibe of what I was looking for was a personable coaching staff. I love the coaching staff,” Grimes shared (via Brian Dohn of 247 Sports). “They care about you. Not just on the field as an athlete. A lot of these coaching staffs don't care about the player off the field. They only care about what is on the field. This coaching staff here I feel is more personable, more love, more family-based program.”

Before making his decision on Michigan State football, Grimes spent his first three years in college with the North Carolina Tar Heels before transferring to the SEC with the Aggies for the 2022 season. He was not able to see action with Texas A&M, though, because of injuries.

In 36 college football games, Grimes has accumulated an interception, a sack, 19 passes defended, and a forced fumble. He should bring depth and experience to Michigan State football's defense.
