While MLB is officially back and Spring Training is underway, the New York Mets and New York Yankees were issued a harsh reality check on Tuesday. According to Stefan Bondy, a City Hall spokesperson informed him that the Yankees and Mets will be treated in the same regard as the Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving when it comes to unvaccinated players.
Spoke to a City Hall spokesperson and the Yankees and Mets fall under the same private sector mandate as Kyrie Irving and the Nets. No difference because it's an outdoor sport. Spokesperson cautioned that things could change by Opening Day.

Bondy reports the spokesperson informed him there was no difference between the situation of the Mets and Yankees and that of the Nets, despite Yankee Stadium and Citi Field being outdoor venues. Their source did, however, indicate that changes could be implemented prior to MLB Opening Day, which would hopefully clear the way for any unvaccinated players to be able to take the field.
Neither team revealed what players are unvaccinated, as it is at the players' discretion to reveal that information. Aaron Judge was non-committal in his response when asked about his vaccination status.
The Yankees and Mets are held under the same private sector mandate as the Nets and Irving were, thus making their unvaccinated ineligible to take the field. Whether this news prompts players to get vaccinated remains to be seen, but if the mandate isn't lifted, we could potentially be seeing a whole new Irving situation taking place in MLB.
The Yankees and Mets will be holding out hope that the mandate gets lifted ahead of Opening Day, as the teams have already overcome enough obstacles just to be able to get on the field for the 2022 MLB season.
