The Houston Astros will host the Oakland Athletics in the final game before the All-Star break, wrapping up a three-game series. So far, the games are split in this series, but overall, the A's are in a spot in the season where they just want to spoil other teams' victories. With that said, can they spoil another victory from the Astros today? It’s time to continue our MLB odds series with an Athletics-Astros prediction and pick.

Why The Athletics Can Cover The Spread/Win

The A's head into this matchup in last place not just in the AL West, but the entire league. They have an overall record of 31-62 so far and are still 29.0 games behind the Astros for first place. As I said, the A's are at a point where they know they aren't going to make the playoffs and are now trying to spoil other teams from getting there. Adam Oller will get the start on the bump tonight for the A's as he is 0-3 in his career so far with a 9.00 ERA. He'll be the last hope from the A's pitching in the first half of the season as they regroup and prepare for the second half during the All-Star break. Maybe they can break one out tonight.

Why The Astros Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Astros are slowly starting to be chased by the Mariners as Seattle has been on a red-hot 13-game winning streak and closing the gap between the two in the standings. The Astros have been playing great baseball in the first half of the season as they have an overall record of 59-31, now just 10.0 games ahead of the Mariners. No need to fear though as the Astros are still a top-notch ball club and can continue to grow the lead if they don't get distracted by the Mariners. Jake Odorizzi is set to take the hill for his 10th start of the season, showing a record of 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.129 WHIP. He'll look to shut down the A's again, which he just did in his last start on Sunday.

Final Athletics-Astros Prediction & Pick

If the records don't speak for themselves, it's a clear pick of the winner tonight. The Astros simply just have the better players and the better momentum of the season. Can the A's find a way to win? Of course they can, they just did it in the first game of the series. The question is mainly, will the Astros let them? And for that reason, I'm taking the Astros to cover the spread, and beat them by at minimum two. The odds for games like these are never good, so sometimes you just have to bet the best odds. In situations like those, I would normally just take Astros ML and throw it in a parlay, juice it up a little bit.

Final Athletics-Astros Prediction and Pick: Astros -1.5 (-128)
